History of Paranormal Studies :



Pliny the Younger - Recorded the first story of a ghost hunt in 100 AD.



The Ghost Club - (London) The Ghost Club was founded in 1862, and is believed to be the oldest paranormal research group in the world.



Society For Physical Research/SPR - (United Kingdom) - SPR was founded in 1882.



National Laboratory of Phychical Research - Established in 1925, by Harry Price.



Boston Society For Psychical Research - Walter Franklin Price officially setup the Boston Society For Psychical Research in 1925 as a result of internal strife within the Society For Psychical Research, also known as ASPR, American Society For Psychical Research. The society faded away in 1934.



New England Society for Psychic Research - (New England) Founded by Ed and Lorraine Warren in 1952.



Ghost Chasers International, INC/GCA - (Lexington, Kentucky) - Founded in 1996, by Patty Starr.

Patti Starr is the president and owner of the  Lexington Kentucky based, Ghost Chasers International, Inc. She teaches a four week course, " Introductory to Ghost Hunting" and a six week course, "Advanced Ghost Hunting" at a local university.

Her research for ghost includes:

*electromagnetic field detection, observing electrostatic field disturbances

*capturing anomalous images with infrared videography, 3-D photography, digital photography, 35 mm photography

*recorded EVP with audio recording devices

*monitoring the temperature with laser thermal scanners



The Atlantic Paranormal Society/TAPS - Founded in 1990, under the name Rhode Island Paranormal Society, by Jason Hawes.  A couple of years later, Grant Wilson joined as Co-Founder. The name was later changed to The Atlantic Paranormal Society.  They began filming a TV cable show on October 6, 2006, currently know as Ghost Hunters.



Paranormal and Demonology Research Society of New England - Founded in 1998, by John Zaffis.



Paranormal Research Society/PRS - PRS is a student group at the Pennsylvania State University, founded by Ryan Buell on September 16, 2001.  Their investigations became the focus of the A&E show "Paranormal State", in which Buell is a consulting producer.







Demonology :



Ed and Loraine Warren

Ed and Lorraine Warren claim to have conducted over 10,000 investigations during their careers as paranormal investigators.  Ed was a noted religious demonologist and his wife Lorraine worked as a clairvoyant and light trance medium with over 25 years experience in the field. Ed died on August 23, 1996 at the age of 79. Over the years they trained several current paranormal investigators/demonologist, including John Zaffis, Dave Considine and Lou Gentile.



John Zaffis

John Zaffis founded the Paranormal and Demonology Research Society of New England in 1998, after studying under the Warrens.  He has over 30 years experience working with cases involving possession and exorcism.



Other's who have contributed to the paranormal research field :



Chip Coffey - works as a clairvoyant, clairaudient, and clairsentent psychic. He is also a fully-conscious medium. and a certified paranormal investigator . 





The Rhine Research Center -  Formerly known as the Foundation for Research on the Nature of Man, that developed out of the Parapsychology Laboratory at Duke University by J. B Rhine, then later moved off of the campus in 1965, after he retired from the University.  In 1995 the Foundation was renamed The Rhine Research Center in his honor.  The center is committed to doing research in the areas such as, telepathy, clairvoyance, remote viewing, psychokinesis, and survival of the consciousness.
